The "Prayer Shirts of Sultans" exhibition, which was prepared to preserve the Sultan's shirts and transfer them to the present day, was opened to visitors in the capital.
In the exhibition opened at the July 15 Democracy Museum, historical sultan shirts with prayers and verses on them, worn under caftans, were presented to the public.
Among the 35 shirts exhibited, the shirt specially prepared for July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day also attracted attention.
Exhibition manager and illumination artist Ayşe Vanlıoğlu stated in her statement to AA correspondent that they took care to prepare the shirts on display in accordance with the conditions of the period.
Vanlıoğlu said, "First, we did academic research. 'How was it made, how did our ancestors do it and for what purpose?' We designed it using techniques suitable for that purpose and the conditions of that day. We used paints and brushes suitable for the original." he said.
Sharing details about the special piece of the exhibition prepared for July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, Vanlıoğlu said:
"On July 15, I was among those who resisted until the morning in Üsküdar Square. I am a person who lived July 15 to the core and this idea came to my mind. We collected on this shirt the feelings and thoughts of the imams and muezzins who recited the sela from the minarets on July 15, written with their own hands. On the back of the shirt, there is the Independence March in Ottoman Turkish and the names of our July 15 martyrs."
The exhibition, whose opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı, can be visited until August 14.
