Bekir Kaplan, Press and Public Relations Counselor of the Ministry of Commerce, announced that, within the scope of market surveillance and inspections, it was decided to recall a toy from the market, which was found to contain phthalates above the limit allowed in the legislation and to create a risk of suffocation by breaking the product into small pieces.
In his post on his social media account, Kaplan, Press and Public Relations Advisor of the Ministry of Commerce, stated that children's health and safety have red lines and stated that the non-conformities in question were determined as a result of laboratory analyzes carried out within the scope of market surveillance and inspection activities carried out by the Ministry of Commerce.
In the statement, it was pointed out that phthalates, which can negatively affect the development of especially babies and young children, are among the chemicals whose use in toys is strictly limited. Upon examination, it was determined that the product contained high levels of phthalates and that it broke into small pieces, posing a risk of suffocation.
In this context, it was stated that the toy in question was banned from being placed on the market and it was decided to withdraw it from the market, and that the product was announced to the public through the Unsafe Product Information System (GÜBİS).
Emphasizing that the Ministry of Commerce will not tolerate any products that threaten the health of children, Kaplan stated that market surveillance and control activities will be continued with determination in line with scientific analyzes and laboratory examinations in order to ensure citizens' access to safe products.
Kaplan also stated that all decisions regarding products that are determined to be unsafe will continue to be shared with the public through GÜBİS in accordance with the principle of transparency, and that inspections will be continued uninterruptedly for the safety of children, the peace of families and the supply of safe products. - ANKARA
