In the case regarding the explosion that occurred in the silos of the Soil Products Office in Kocaeli, an expert committee of 8 people was assigned to prepare a report to re-determine faults and responsibilities. The hearing was postponed for the report to be prepared and presented to the court.
Ekrem Kalkan and Elif Dayıoğlu lost their lives and 8 people were injured in the explosion that occurred in the Soil Products Office (TMO) silos in Derince district of Kocaeli on August 7, 2023. 13 of TMO's 60 silos were damaged in the incident. A lawsuit was filed separately against the 6 defendants mentioned in the investigation, demanding imprisonment from 2 to 15 years for the crime of "negligently causing the death and injury of more than one person."
The expert committee will prepare a report again
In the last case, the court board determined that the parties objected to the expert report received during the investigation phase, and that there was no new report in the file during the prosecution phase. In this context; It was decided to obtain a new report from the expert panel to be elected ex officio, in order to re-evaluate who the people responsible for the incident were, the scope of their responsibilities, whether there were other people at fault, and the accuracy of the previous findings of fault.
The 9th hearing of the case regarding the incident continued to be heard at Kocaeli 3rd High Criminal Court. While the complainant's attorney, Yaprak Gülen Şahin Karakuş, attended the hearing, the defendant and his excuse-giving attorneys did not attend the hearing.
