National wrestlers won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal on the first day of the freestyle competitions at the Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial Ranking Series held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
Competing in the 61 kilo category in the Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial Ranking Series, Tolga Özbek defeated Georgian Giorgi Goniashvili with a technical advantage of 11-0 in the quarter-finals. The national athlete, who beat Kazakh Adilet Almukhamedov 15-7 in the semi-finals and reached the final, faced Kazakhstan's Assyl Aitakyn in the final. Tolga Özbek, who lost the match that ended 2-2 to his opponent with the advantage of the last point in the highly competitive match, completed the tournament with a silver medal.
Appearing on the mat at 86 kilos, Alperen Atar defeated Latvian Ivars Samusonoks 8-4 in the first round. The national wrestler, who won by default against Bahrain's Khıdır Kurbanov Saipudinov, was defeated by French Rakhim Magamadov, the European runner-up, in the quarter-finals. Alperen Atar, who beat Kazakh Bolat Sakayev by default in the repechage match, defeated Chinese Nan Cao 5-3 in the bronze medal match and completed the tournament with the bronze medal.
