TURKISH Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced that chicken meat production decreased in May, while egg and drinking milk production increased.

TUIK announced poultry production and milk and dairy products production statistics for the period May 2026. Accordingly; In May, compared to the same month of the previous year, chicken egg production increased by 21.6 percent, the number of slaughtered chickens decreased by 16.8 percent, and chicken meat production decreased by 16.3 percent. In the January-May period, compared to the same period of the previous year, chicken egg production increased by 18.1 percent, the number of slaughtered chickens decreased by 1.1 percent, and chicken meat production decreased by 2.2 percent.

Chicken meat production, which was 236 thousand 310 tons in the previous month, decreased by 14.4 percent in May and became 202 thousand 336 tons. Chicken egg production, which was 1 billion 844 million 973 thousand in the previous month, increased by 0.7 percent in May and reached 1 billion 857 million 150 thousand.

1 MILLION 22 THOUSAND 587 TONS OF COW MILK WAS COLLECTED

The amount of cow milk collected by commercial dairy enterprises increased by 2.3 percent in May compared to the same month of the previous year, and increased by 0.5 percent in the January-May period compared to the same period of the previous year. In May, compared to the same month of the previous year, cow cheese production increased by 2.4 percent, buttermilk and kefir production increased by 2 percent, yoghurt production decreased by 1.2 percent, drinking milk production increased by 19.7 percent, butter and ghee production decreased by 12 percent. In the January-May period, compared to the same period of the previous year, cow cheese production increased by 2.8 percent, ayran and kefir production increased by 8.9 percent, yoghurt production increased by 8.4 percent, drinking milk production increased by 9.2 percent, butter and ghee production decreased by 5 percent.

The amount of cow milk collected by commercial dairy enterprises, which was 994 thousand 312 tons in the previous month, increased by 2.8 percent in May and reached 1 million 22 thousand 587 tons. Drinking milk production, which was 154 thousand 447 tons in the previous month, increased by 1.9 percent in May and reached 157 thousand 453 tons.
