The European Union (EU) has approved Germany's provision of public support totaling 659 million euros to 4 facilities to be established for semiconductor production.
The EU Commission announced that Germany's program, which aims to support chip production, was approved as compatible with EU public support rules.
In the statement, it was stated that this support will increase the semiconductor production capacity in Europe, strengthen the supply chain and contribute to the technological autonomy of the EU in this field.
It was stated in the statement that the federal government and state governments in Germany will provide a total of 659 million euros of financing for 4 facilities within the scope of the support, and that these investments will be the first exemplary facilities to be established in these areas in Europe.
The authority to determine how EU member states will provide public support falls within the jurisdiction of the EU Commission.
Member countries can use public supports only in cases that do not harm competition and are in the public interest.
