KABUL, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that more than 10.7 million women and girls in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance this year.
According to local media outlet Tolo News, citing the UN agency on Tuesday, women and girls are most affected by the humanitarian crisis in the country, where the need for health, security and other basic services increases.
In the statement, it was stated that the lack of female health workers, lack of funds and restrictions in access to health services put serious pressure on Afghanistan's maternal health system.
Warning that the difficulties experienced may lead to an increase in maternal and infant deaths, the UN agency pointed out that sustainable humanitarian support is vital to meet the health and humanitarian needs of the country.
