SHANGHAI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization was established in Shanghai, China, with an agreement signed by 29 countries.
According to the agreement signed on Thursday, the organization, headquartered in Shanghai, will operate as an independent intergovernmental international organization.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese government.
Representatives from 29 countries, including Kazakhstan, Laos, Pakistan, Russia, and Indonesia, signed the agreement, making their countries founding members of the organization. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also attended the signing ceremony, along with representatives from various countries and international organizations.
According to the agreement, the organization will adhere to the purposes of the UN Charter, adopt the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, and pursue a people-centered approach.
The organization aims to promote international cooperation and global governance in the field of artificial intelligence, ensure the beneficial, safe, and fair development and use of AI, thereby supporting its healthy and orderly development for the benefit of all humanity.
