Herekol Mountain and its foothills in Siirt's Pervari district host millions of honey bees during the summer season. In the region, which is one of Turkey's important honey production centers, beekeepers work diligently with thousands of hives to produce both traditional (karakovan) and modern (fenni kovan) honey.
Herekol Mountain, located at an altitude of approximately 2,600 meters, is among the favorite spots for honey producers with its rich vegetation and endemic flora. Influenced by the peaceful and secure environment established in the region, beekeepers from different provinces set up their hives on the foothills of the mountain, continuing the production season. Millions of bees, collecting nectar especially from astragalus, thyme, sage, incense, and numerous wild plants, contribute to the unique aroma and quality of Pervari honey. Beekeepers anticipate a productive honey yield at the end of the season.
Mesut Çetin, a migratory beekeeper in Siirt, stated that Pervari is one of Turkey's most important honey production centers, saying, "The altitude of the region we are in is approximately 2,600 meters. It has a completely natural and clean air. There is a unique endemic plant diversity. Sage, thyme, astragalus, and many wild plants constitute an important nectar source for bees. We bring our bees here every year. We continue our ancestral profession. After harvesting the honey in September, we migrate again."
Lütfi Yiğit, a beekeeper from Pervari's Karasu village, stated that they ascend Herekol Mountain every year starting from mid-June, saying, "We bring our bees to Herekol Mountain every year. We produce here for approximately four months. We complete the honey extraction in mid-October and return to our village. We deliver the honey we harvest to our consumers. I wish everyone good health from it."
Pervari honey, produced in the rich flora of Herekol Mountain and distinguished by its quality, is sent to many provinces across Turkey every year, while beekeeping activities in the region make significant contributions to both the local economy and employment. - SİİRT
