Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that intelligence information indicates that Russia may be planning provocations in Poland or the Baltic countries in order to test the unity of NATO.
In his interview with the BNS news agency, Nauseda confirmed the news in the foreign press that Russia may be preparing attacks using different methods against critical infrastructure in Poland or the Baltic countries.
Stating that they received signals in this direction from intelligence services, Nauseda stated that the information in question does not point to a specific place or time.
Pointing out that Russia may not have completed the planning process yet, Nauseda said that intelligence can only have information about planning activities or the targeted purpose.
Nauseda said, "I cannot deny that we have information in this direction. These are information about targeted kinetic operations that are not large-scale but are likely to be directed towards critical infrastructure." he said.
Nauseda, who did not give details about possible targets or evidence, stated that Lithuania has recently strengthened measures to protect its critical infrastructure in the field of transportation and energy.
Nauseda stated that the authorities are preparing for different attack scenarios that could disrupt the functioning of critical infrastructure, and emphasized that these facilities are of vital importance, especially in terms of maintaining Lithuania's synchronization with Europe's electricity grid.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski also made a similar warning regarding possible provocations on Polish territory, saying, "We have reliable information that the Russians are planning something. By clearly saying that we know this, we want to effectively deter them from these attempts." He used the expression.
