The prosecutor, who gave his opinion in the trial of Selçuk Aydoğan (44), who killed the Deputy Director of Agriculture and Forestry Murat Yakupoğlu (37) with 5 bullets in his office on the grounds that he had an affair with his wife, whom he was in the process of divorcing, in BALIKESİR's Marmara district, asked for the detained defendant to be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.

The incident took place on October 6, 2024, at around 15:00, in the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry building on Government Street. When 5 gunshots were heard from the building, police teams were dispatched to the scene upon notice. The teams found the Deputy District Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Murat Yakupoğlu, motionless and covered in blood in his office room. Under the control of medical teams, it was determined that Yakupoğlu lost his life. Murat Yakupoğlu's body was buried in Izmir after the autopsy.

While the investigation into the incident was ongoing, it was claimed that the suspect, who was said to have escaped on his motorcycle and was wearing a helmet, was Selçuk Aydoğan, the husband of the woman with whom Murat Yakupoğlu was allegedly in a relationship, who was in the process of divorcing. 24 hours after the incident, Aydoğan was walking on the street in Çınarlı District and saw the gendarmerie teams. He went to the cafe run by his family and called the gendarmerie on the phone. Photographs of the moments when Selçuk Aydoğan, who said he wanted to surrender to the gendarmerie teams, talked on the phone were also revealed.

In his statement at the police station, the suspect, who was detained by the gendarmerie and handed over to the police, stated that he killed Yakupoğlu on the grounds that he was having an affair with his wife, who was in the divorce phase, and that he threw away the gun. On the other hand, it was stated that the wife of Selçuk Aydoğan, the father of two children, who is in the divorce phase, lives in Istanbul and has a protection order against him on the grounds that he was threatened by the suspect.

After his procedures at the gendarmerie, Aydoğan was taken to the courthouse where he was referred and sent to prison. Aydoğan, who was brought from Marmara Island to the Narlı District Port of Erdek district by gendarmerie boat, was taken from there to Bandırma Penal Institution.

The trial of detained defendant Selçuk Aydoğan continued at Bandırma 1st High Criminal Court. Aydoğan, who is in prison, attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). Selçuk Aydoğan asked for his release pending trial, saying that he had been in prison for about 2 years and that his family and 2 children had gone through difficult times and were victims of this. Announcing his opinion on the merits at the hearing, the public prosecutor requested that the defendant be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "qualified intentional murder".

The presiding judge adjourned the hearing after the defendant's lawyer requested time to defend against the opinion, and decided to continue Aydoğan's detention.
