'LEARNED BEHAVIORS MAY BE EFFECTIVE'
Mustafa Otrar, General Director of Special Education and Guidance Services, made a presentation to the commission. Otrar said, "When it comes to violence and crime, we are talking about a situation that cannot be reduced to a single cause and a single result. This makes it difficult for us. Let me give a few examples. When we look at it in the academic field, when we ask, 'Why does a person use violence or exhibit violent behavior?', frustration may cause this, reinforced behaviors, taught behaviors may be effective. Behaviors he observes by taking a model from others may be effective. Having experienced violence before or witnessed violence may lead to the emergence of violent behavior. "This is important. In fact, even the excessive secretion of the thyroxine hormone can be shown as a reason for a person to easily become exasperated and exhibit violent behavior. Apart from these, we can say that some psychological problems, such as low-intensity impulsivity, are also a factor. However, as a matter just mentioned, I have not come across any evidence that learning disability is a cause of violence; I would like to present this as well."
'WE ARE TRYING TO INCREASE THEIR SOCIAL ACTIVITIES'
Mustafa Yaşam, General Director of Innovation and Educational Technologies of the Ministry of National Education, said: "For the last three years, we have started to carry out activities for families to participate more intensively in their children's education processes and to pay close attention to their children, with the joint activities of all relevant units of the Ministry, under the instructions of our Minister, but when we look at the digital environment, one of the issues discussed today is the socialization of children in the field of digital technologies, that is, making a project here, doing an activity, developing a product on this subject, with their friends, without having to stay in front of a device or the internet alone at home. This is a collaboration activity indexed to real world skills." We also have an activity called 'GENÇTEK', which we have been carrying out for two years. This year, we have done it with thousands of students from 62 provinces, and we are trying to increase the social activities of our students in the field of digital technologies by collaborating and sharing with each other, under the guidance of our teachers, in many fields such as game design, e-commerce, cyber security, digital art, artificial intelligence, open source, digital walk. "We have students participating in the competition. We operate the Harezmi model in thousands of schools, and we are trying to popularize activities such as our students producing technology-based solutions to real-world problems with the participation of more than 4 to 5 teachers through group activities, so that our students can use these technologies with social responsibility awareness and in a friendly environment," he said.
Ankara Provincial Director of National Education Murat Küçükali stated that he does not think that there is a deficiency in the education of national and spiritual values in schools and said, "It is related to this because we have elective courses that include basic religious knowledge and we also have a program that directs us to values education based on all subjects in our education model and its instructions are presented to the teacher with everything ready. There is no deficiency in our schools in this direction. And this violence is constantly pumped into our students, so the student normalizes this violence. Well, when the family learns about this violence, it is our biggest solution partner. What does the family do when they find out? Unfortunately, they immediately try to deny it, saying, 'My child wouldn't do this or someone provoked him, he did it to protect himself, he should be crushed instead of being crushed.' He acts with logic. Since there are very few cooperative and constructive families, we have difficulty in solving problems and educating these violent children. What is the solution suggestion? These children reveal themselves in pre-school education, they behave more aggressively and are more prone to violence towards their friends. It is very effective to identify these in early childhood and direct them to sports and artistic activities by collaborating with Family and Social Policies, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Culture, and especially directing children who are prone to this violence to combat sports. Because those sports generally teach self-control and not to use violence," he said.
