Stating that the journalism profession needs a new structure in the face of changing media order and digital transformation, Okan Geçgel stated that the Journalists Union of Turkey, which is aimed to be established with the special law to be prepared, will increase the common representation power of the profession.
Geçgel pointed out the importance of creating a structure that will protect the rights and interests of journalists more effectively, strengthen professional principles and be based on ethical values, and said, "Our aim is to implement a strong professional organization that covers all journalists working in local, national and digital media, will increase the prestige of the profession and be the common voice of journalists." he said.
The Turkish Journalists Union planned to be established; Stating that it is aimed to make significant contributions in many areas such as improving the personnel rights of journalists, increasing professional standards, protecting ethical principles, increasing training activities and strengthening cooperation between media organizations, Geçgel emphasized that the activity is not an alternative to any institution or organization, on the contrary, it is the product of a common vision covering all professional organizations.
TİGAD Chairman Okan Geçgel stated that the process will be carried out with the understanding of consultation and common sense, and called on journalists' associations, press federations, internet journalism associations, unions and all press organizations operating throughout Turkey.
Geçgel said, "We expect the opinions, suggestions and support of all our professional organizations to achieve the success of this important activity that concerns the future of the journalism profession.
