Regarding his country's invasion of Iraq after the September 11 attacks, US President Donald Trump said, "Frankly, they attacked the wrong country and caused great damage." he said.

Trump and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi held a press conference after their meeting at the White House.

Stating that he opposed the US invasion of Iraq, Trump said, "I always said, do not enter Iraq. Do not attack Iraq. Frankly, they attacked the wrong country and caused great damage." he said.

Praising Zaydi's struggle in the election process, Trump touched upon the cooperation with Iraq's new prime minister, especially regarding the country's oil reserves.

Asked about the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Trump said, "We don't think we need the army there anymore. What you have is a huge opportunity. The oil companies are all coming in now, making partnerships with Iraq and getting along very well. This is a huge relationship where we don't need the army there." he replied.

Trump noted that they would be in the region to protect Iraq if necessary, but "they don't think it will be necessary."

Iraqi Prime Minister Zaidi also drew attention to his country's fight against the terrorist organization DAESH and emphasized that this fight cost Iraq "more than 400 billion dollars".

Zaydi noted that the fight against ISIS destroyed Iraq's infrastructure and said, "Today, some cities in Iraq are completely destroyed, they are like living camps. We have a plan to return them to their homes. We need a fair share." he said.

He said Iran was "bullying" in the Middle East

On the other hand, regarding the tension with Iran, Trump said, "You know, we had an agreement two days ago. It was completed and then suddenly they couldn't do it. They didn't like something in the agreement. They couldn't do it and they opened fire first." he said.

About Iran: "It was the tyrant of the Middle East." Trump said, "They bullied Iraq. They bullied every country. Fear prevailed in other countries in the Middle East. But there is no fear anymore because their military capacity has been destroyed." he said.

Trump claimed that through the relations developed with Iraq, the Middle East was coming together "like never before."
