Soldiers and police officers from Adana who were martyred during FETO's coup attempt on July 15, 2016, were commemorated with prayers at their graves.
Commemoration events were held at the martyrs' cemeteries in the city within the scope of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. The city protocol with Governor Mustafa Yavuz visited the graves of police officer twin brothers Ahmet and Mehmet Oruç (25), who were martyred in the attack on the Special Operations Department in Ankara Gölbaşı with F-16 warplanes during the coup attempt of FETO, in Alihocalı District of the central Yüreğir district. Governor Yavuz prayed with family relatives and left carnations at the graves of the martyrs.
'THEY LOVED THEIR LIVES FOR THIS COUNTRY'
Ali Oruç, the father of the twin martyrs, stated that he was proud of his children. Oruç said, "Today is the 10th anniversary of my children's martyrdom. How happy I am that my children willingly gave their lives for their country. I am happy and at peace. As the father of two martyrs, my children protected their country, religion and call to prayer. I am proud of my children. May all our martyrs rest in peace. I thank our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. May God grant him long life."
Governor Mustafa Yavuz, who made a statement to the press after the prayers, said, "We read our prayers at the graves of our martyrs and fulfilled our duty. Until 10 years ago, our brothers Ahmet and Mehmet were the children of this family, but after 10 years, they will continue to live as the children and brothers of 86 million. Thanks to them, today we live in freedom, independence, peace and security. 10 years ago, they risked their lives in FETO's coup attempt. They defended their homeland and independence. "They made the greatest sacrifice to defend democracy. We will protect their memory, we will protect our country stronger, we will hold on to our unity and solidarity more tightly than we did yesterday, and we will continue to walk hand in hand towards a better future."
Within the scope of the program, the graves of police officer Yunus Uğur (24) and infantry specialist sergeant Halit Yaşar Mine (38), who were martyred in the coup attempt, were also visited and prayers were offered.
