Her religiously married husband, who is on trial in detention in the case of the death of a 24-year-old young woman who was shot in the head in Antalya, appeared before the judge for the first time. While the defendant claimed suicide by saying, "There was no reason for me to kill her. I am against violence against women," the mother said that her daughter said "I am very unhappy, I regret it" the day before the incident, and the father said that he did not believe that the death was suicide.

The incident took place on January 18 in an apartment on Sütçüler Street, Sütçüler District, Kepez district. Helin Nama (24) and İsmail K., who started living together in a religious marriage about 3 months before the incident, returned home after their visit to Nama's family. An argument broke out between the two for an unknown reason. İsmail K. claimed that after the argument, he entered Helin Nama's bedroom and locked the door, and when he forced the door open to talk, he saw the young woman with the gun to her forehead. I asked Nama, "What are you doing?" İsmail K., who claimed that the gun fired as he approached, stated that he took the injured young woman in his arms and took her to the hospital. Helin Nama, who was seriously injured in the head, died despite all the interventions made in the hospital.

He was sent to prison on the charge of "premeditated murder"

Following the incident, İsmail K. was detained by Antalya Police Department Public Order Branch Directorate Homicide Bureau teams and was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station. İsmail K., who was taken to court after his statement to the prosecutor's office, was arrested and sent to prison on the charge of 'deliberate murder'. The first hearing of the case in which İsmail K. was detained on charges of 'intentional murder against a woman' and 'purchasing or carrying or possessing unlicensed firearms and bullets' was held at Antalya 1st High Criminal Court. The detained defendant İsmail K., the victim's relatives and the lawyers of the parties were present at the hearing.

"There was no reason to kill my wife"

İsmail K., who made his defense at the first hearing where witnesses were also heard, stated that he did not accept the accusations and said, "I loved my wife very much. There was no reason for me to kill her. We met at the beginning of 2025, we had a religious wedding in November of the same year. I did not slap her or say bad words to her even once. The day before the incident, we sat down to eat and chat with my mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law. When I came home, my mother-in-law I told him not to get up, we would visit them the next day. On the day of the incident, we woke up at 07:00. My wife and I went to work at the same place. When we finished work, we went to my mother-in-law's house. After I got out of the shower, my wife called me and said, "Where did you stay?" he asked. So I said, 'I'm coming' and went to them. "It was 19:00," he said.

İsmail K., who said that he went out to drop off his father-in-law at his home in the evening, continued his defense as follows:

"I left around 21:00 in the evening to drop my father-in-law off at his house. While I was leaving him, my uncle's son called me. After dropping off my father-in-law, I took my uncle's son and went to Şarampol. Then my wife called and said, 'What are you doing, where are you? Come and get me, we will go home.' On the way, I dropped off my uncle's son Mustafa to his house. While we were leaving Şarampol, we saw my brother-in-law's car. I made a flashlight, but he noticed us. He didn't. We made eye contact as we entered the underpass. I called him, but his phone was busy. Then Emrah brother called me and said that he thought the person next to me was Helin, and that the person next to me was not Helin, but my uncle's son.

"When I opened the door, he had the gun to his forehead."

Explaining that he later picked up Helin Nama from his family's house, İsmail K. claimed that there was an argument between them when they returned home and said, "I thought he was reactive because I did not inform him that I was going to meet my uncle's son. When we got home, he came to me and said, 'Why didn't you inform me?' he asked. I told him that I told him when he called. Thereupon, he said, 'You will act before me and inform me.' And I said, 'Am I going to ask your permission?' I replied. "There was an argument between us about giving notice and getting permission," he said.

Claiming that Nama went to the bedroom and locked the door after the argument, the defendant said, "I heard the sound of the door locking and went to the bedroom door. When I forced the door open, he had the gun to his forehead. 'Stop, what are you doing?' He pulled the trigger as I approached. For six months I have been constantly asking myself 'Why?' I ask. The trace of my hand on the gun is entirely due to my contact with the gun. "There may have been gunshot residue on my hands because I intervened in the incident," he said.

The defendant, who said that he took Helin Nama down from the apartment and took her to the hospital, said, "I started to take her down by holding her head with my right hand and her legs with my left hand. As I was going down the stairs, I shouted to the neighbors, 'Help me'. Then I took my wife to Kepez State Hospital. We left my mother-in-law's house and came home around 23:00. The incident happened about 10 minutes after we arrived home."

Explaining the phone calls that took place after the incident, İsmail K. said, "I took out my phone to call my father-in-law, but due to the stress I was experiencing at that moment, I accidentally called Helin twice. Meanwhile, our neighbor came. Since I did not have credit on my phone, I called my father-in-law from our neighbor's phone, but he did not answer the phone. Then my father-in-law called our neighbor back. Our neighbor said to me, 'His father called, I told him that he fell down the stairs.' So I called his father again and said, 'Dad, Helin hit his head. "We are at Kepez State Hospital, come," he said. "I have not been able to experience my wife's pain for six months. Even though I took her to the hospital, I did not hit my wife once, I did not say a bad word to her."

Explaining the reason for keeping the gun at home, the defendant said, "The reason I hid the gun was that guests came to our house. I pushed the gun behind my wife's dressing table because I was afraid that the children would think the gun was a toy. I put the magazine on the nightstand next to me."

"He would play a song by Sezen Aksu and say 'When I die, listen to this'"

Claiming that his wife talked about death from time to time before marriage, İsmail K. said, "Before we got married, he would put on a song by Sezen Aksu or another song and say, 'Listen to this when I die.' And I said, 'Honey, why are you doing this?' I would ask. And he said, 'Aren't we going to die one day? "I will die before you," he said. I thought about these things all the time I was in prison. "When we went to the amusement park, he always rode at the end of the gondola," he said.

İsmail K., who claimed that he kept the gun to protect his house, said, "I was newly married and there was gold in my house. I bought the gun from a person I met at the construction site last year. If my wife wanted to leave me, why would she build the vehicle on me? Thank God, I have never been on the street until today. I have no criminal record. I am against violence against women. Would someone who is unhappy with her husband take selfies and share them every day? The statements of the complainants are not true, all they say are statements made at home."

The mother of the victim, Helin Nama, claimed that her daughter did not have suicidal tendencies and said that the couple had problems from time to time during their engagement period. Nama's mother said, "They were married for about 2 months. There were conflicts between them from time to time during the engagement period, but whatever happened happened after the wedding. Ismail was applying psychological pressure to my daughter. My daughter could not even look at us. Ismail was saying, 'Identities will change, let's give it some time, then we will have an official marriage.'"

Stating that she was staying at her daughter's house the day before the incident, the mother said, "She said to Helin, 'You are so skinny, why?' I asked. He said to me, 'I am very unhappy, I regret it. 'Would you accept me if I came back to you?' he said. And I said, 'He's a good kid, why are you saying that?' I asked. Then he said, 'Mom, he doesn't treat me the way he treats you. He puts a lot of pressure on me. He's even jealous of me from his father. "He is not one of the people you know," he said.

Making a statement about the gun used in the incident, the mother claimed that İsmail K.'s father brought the gun and said, "One day while they were with us, she called İsmail outside the site. She had a handbag with her and there was a gun in the bag. She gave the gun while they were still engaged. I asked, 'Why did they give me a gun?' When I asked, İsmail said that he bought it to protect himself while working in construction."

Explaining that her daughter has become withdrawn in recent months, the mother said, "While even cats and dogs took care of their babies, her family did not take care of her. I took care of her, took her into my home, and fed her. So this was the reward. Helin was very calm for the last 1-2 months. She was both a son and a daughter for us. She did everything for us and managed everything. I do not believe that she was a girl who would kill herself. She was a lively, joyful girl."

The victim's father, Feyat Nama, also stated that he did not believe that his daughter committed suicide, and that he was first told that his daughter had fallen down the stairs after the incident. Feyat Nama said, "A neighbor called me and said, 'Your daughter fell down the stairs.' My daughter's psychology had deteriorated lately. After marriage, she was not my old daughter, she became someone else. However, no one told me about the problems she was experiencing. It was not Ismail's father, but his uncle, who came to ask for my daughter. When I told my daughter that I did not want this marriage, she said, 'I love her.' Her uncle came and asked for my daughter, and we gave her to him. I was in prison at that time. The wedding was held about a month after I was released from prison." spoke.

Claiming that her daughter was not someone who would commit suicide, Feyat Nama said, "She was saying that Ismail was living on the street before she got married. My daughter was saying to me, 'Father, she shouldn't stay on the street. Let's get married and have a house.' Why would a girl who runs for everything at a young age, drives a vehicle, and is involved in life, commit suicide out of the blue? I don't think my daughter committed suicide. Either Ismail did it himself or he pressured my daughter to do this. Since my daughter was not wearing a headscarf, Ismail's father didn't even come to ask." he said.

"We laughed and chatted during our last meeting"

The defendant's older sister, Elif K., who was heard as a witness at the hearing, stated that they loved Helin Nama and said, "We have never been in court before in our lives. We also loved our daughter-in-law very much. We talked to Helin on the phone 2 days before the incident. She said that they had bought a car and would come to my house. I was in Diyarbakır on the date of the incident. We laughed, had fun and chatted during our last meeting with Helin."

Witness Nasuh B., who stated that he was a guest in the apartment at the time of the incident, explained what happened immediately after the incident. Nasuh B., "The man asked the woman, 'What did you do?' he said. He was carrying the woman down on his shoulder. He asked me to open the car door, and I did. "I didn't hear any gunshots," he said.

"He told Helin that there was a girl with me, he thought you were a girl"

His uncle's son, Mustafa A., who was with the defendant on the day of the incident, also explained what happened during the day and said, "We were with Ismail on the day of the incident. I told him that I was going to the barber and he could come with me if he wanted. Ismail stated that he would drop off his father-in-law first. Then they took me and we dropped off his father-in-law. When we went to the barber, he said he could pick us up after about an hour. So, we went to a nearby gaming cafe and came back."

Stating that they set out after Helin Nama's phone call, Mustafa A. said, "When Ismail's wife called, we set out to pick up Helin without going to the barber. On the way home, Ismail met his brother-in-law. Then they talked on the phone. After the conversation, Ismail said to me, 'He told Helin that there was a girl with me, he thought you were a girl.' Ismail then dropped me off at my house. He called me around 23.30 at night and said, "Helin shot him in the head," he said.

"He said, 'Every time we argue, he takes the gun in his hand'

The victim's older brother, Emrah N., who was heard as a witness, stated that his brother came to dinner with the defendant at the family home on the day of the incident. Emrah N., who said that the couple went to Bursa a few days before the incident, said, "During the journey, they had an argument on the grounds that Helin was driving the car too fast. Ismail said to my brother, 'I will beat you.' I reacted to Ismail during the meal and said, 'His parents did not touch him, who are you?' I said. "Helin said to me, 'Don't be too aggressive, every time we argue, he picks up the gun.'"

Explaining that he told his brother not to leave the house, Emrah N. said, "I went out because I had a job. When I came back, my brother was not at home. Later, they said that he committed suicide. The defendant was a person who exhibited aggressive behavior. A few days before the incident, he had thrown a bottle at the feet of a taxi driver with whom he had an argument. Helin was trying to improve herself by getting certificates related to her profession 2 months before the incident. Does someone who is considering suicide do these?" he said.

During the hearing, images of the moments when Helin Nama was on the hood of a moving vehicle and fired a blank-fire gun in an empty field were shown to the court panel. The court board decided to eliminate the missing issues in the file and postponed the hearing to a later date. - ANTALYA
