Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation against Nasuh Mahruki, one of the founders of AKUT, due to his July 15 post on his social media account.
In the post that was the subject of the investigation, Mahruki shared an article from his X account regarding the July 15 coup attempt with the following statements:
"July 15 is a coup attempt that was noticed in advance, but was seen as an opportunity for regime change and was not deliberately prevented, but was allowed to take place in a controlled manner.
"The chief planner is the USA. It sacrificed the elephant, took the vizier, made Erdoğan the king and checkmated the Turkish nation."
Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that it had launched an ex officio investigation against Mahruki following the post in question.

Ali Nasuh Mahruki was born on May 21, 1968 in Istanbul. Mahruki, one of Türkiye's well-known mountaineers, went down in sports history as the first Turk to climb Mount Everest. He is also among the founding members of AKUT, known for its search and rescue activities.
Mahruki, who completed his education at Şişli Terakki High School and then at Bilkent University Faculty of Business Administration, was introduced to mountaineering during his university years. He took an active role in the Bilkent University Outdoor Sports Community and served as the president of the community for three years.
Between 1992 and 1994, he earned the title of "Snow Leopard" by climbing five peaks above 7 thousand meters in the former Soviet geography. He became the first Turkish mountaineer to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1995.
In 1996, he completed the Seven Summits project and became one of the athletes who climbed the highest mountains of the seven continents. Throughout his career, he also climbed the world's most challenging mountains such as Cho Oyu, Lhotse and K2. He climbed Everest for the second time in 2010.
Mahruki, who is known for his photography, writing and documentary activities as well as his mountaineering career, gave lectures and seminars on leadership, team activity and risk management at various universities. He wrote columns in different newspapers and magazines and prepared television programs.
Mahruki, who served as AKUT Chairman of the Board of Directors, resigned from his position as chairman and board member on 28 November 2016. Later, he resigned from his position as AKUT Honorary President in 2019.
Mahruki, who has also taken various initiatives in his political life, applied for candidacy for Beşiktaş Mayor before the 2024 local elections and later participated in the elections as an independent candidate.
Mahruki, who was arrested on the charge of "publicly disseminating misleading information to the public" on November 20, 2024, was released on December 5, 2024.
