MEHMET NİYAZİ DENİZ/RECEP ÇELİK - Vehip Danış, 54, living in Siirt, quit his 40-year smoking habit without using medication, thanks to the counseling support he received from the Healthy Life Center Smoking Cessation Polyclinic.

Danış, a father of two daughters who works at the Provincial Health Directorate Community Health Center, thought many times about quitting smoking, which he had been smoking for many years, but he could not succeed.

Explaining that he was out of breath when he climbed the stairs before, Danış said:

"Previously, I couldn't sleep at night, I would wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I was suddenly short of breath. Now they have disappeared. Before, I was going somewhere by car. Now I can walk and go. I can climb the stairs easily, I can run. I don't have any problems. Smoking is not a good habit. I advise everyone to quit. I used to smoke inside the house, too. When I went home, my daughters wouldn't hug me because of the cigarette smell. Now there is no smell either. Health comes first. 'I can't quit.' Don't say "

Siirt Healthy Life Center Smoking Cessation Polyclinic Smoking Cessation Physician Dr. Büşra Eskifuruncu said that Danış, whom they met about 9 months ago, had a history of smoking for more than 40 years.

Stating that Danış had shortness of breath and sleep problems during the examination and tests, Eskifuruncu stated that they provided the necessary consultancy services and follow-up during the smoking cessation process.

Stating that they confirmed with carbon monoxide measurements that Danış has not smoked for approximately 9 months, Eskifuruncu noted that they observed significant improvements in his physical performance and general health condition.

Eskifuruncu said, "As the Smoking Cessation Polyclinic, we served approximately 600 patients in 2025. We determined through our measurements that 94 of them are not still smokers. We aim to reach more people and support them in quitting smoking." he said.

Stating that they applied muscle strength and balance tests to citizens in different parts of the city within the scope of the "Learn Your Movement Age, Stay Healthy" campaign carried out by the Healthy Life Center, Eskifuruncu added that as a result of the tests, the people in need were directed to physiotherapists and followed up.
